Captain America: Brave New World

This movie cannot settle down and be what it needs to be in the moment. It is trying to tie back to movies you don't like and don't remember.

It's pretty action-packed and kind of engaging, particularly if you know what's going on -- but you do have to know what's going on. You need to have seen all the other movies.

I found it absolutely impossible to get interested in it. The writing is at its very, very best functional.

Action scenes pop up frequently enough to keep the most fidgety teen engaged.

The not-so-secret weapon this CAPTAIN AMERICA has going for it is Harrison Ford. Don’t believe the nay-sayers out there: Brave New World is a 21st century Tall Tale, and if it takes two viewings to take it all in, so be it


If Brave New World is a sign of things to come, then the MCU is in more trouble than we thought.

A disjointed mess that is only saved by the charisma of Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson along with a handful of great action scenes.

Where is the passion in this movie? Why does it look so cheaply made given its gargantuan budget? Why does it feel like everyone is punching a time clock?

[It] might just be bridging the gap with disposable entertainment, but it at least feels moored to this world. It holds onto the history of what came before it and the promise of what might be if Secret Wars lives up to the (perhaps unearned) hype.

The best response to Brave New World’s premise — that Captain America is as essential as ever — is his fellow Avenger’s most memorable line: “Is he, though?”
