Cha Cha Real Smooth

Cha Cha Real Smooth made me feel so many things, not least of which is eagerness to see what Raiff might come up with next. Fingers crossed, the party's just getting started.

A loving, tender-hearted, and very funny portrait.

Raiff is good at marking out how maddening adult compromises can look at 22. It helps too that for all his occasional camera-hogging, he makes room for fine performances from co-stars.

Raiff most likely wanted to make a movie about a well-intentioned guy in his early 20s who gradually finds his way to a better life. What undermines his efforts is a creeping smugness and self-regard...

What’s ultimately so disappointing about Cha Cha Real Smooth is its shallow vision of growing up, which might explain why the protagonist does so little of it.

This is a charmer that just did not work on me -- at all, in the slightest.

There is a severe lack of consideration for the supporting characters and who they are outside of their relationships with Andrew.

Apart from some misplaced hero worship... Cha Cha Real Smooth is a sweet narrative about embracing the “good-for-you” things in life.

There is so much to write and to gush about Cha Cha Real Smooth. It’s a film that breaks rules and makes us reflect on who we are.

Cha Cha... remains an absolute, if indulgent, breakthrough delight at its best.
