Cheech & Chong's Last Movie

Even as we think we’re on a quaint road trip of nostalgia, one that’s probably more scripted than it looks, the two start to bicker and argue about stuff, and the quibbling is real.

An amiable tribute to the influential 1970s comedy duo, Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie will probably not convince younger viewers to tune into their back catalogue, but fans should enjoy this nostalgic walk down memory lane.

The director of “Last Movie,” David L. Bushell, is working with the usual stuff of documentaries -- news clippings, archival footage, talking heads -- but has put a fresh and funky spin on these.

This is still a rollicking account that will make even non-herbally-inclined viewers root for the fellows.

With a fine blend of archival footage, stylized animation, and a genuine depiction of their 50-year working relationship, Last Movie proves these immortal potheads still hit.

The film is oddly (and unexpectedly) touching at its end, as the two bicker and then hug it out.

Offering rare but honest insight into the trailblazers (blaze, heh heh) of the "stoner comedy" genre, this documentary captures a genuine high for life.

The subjects are so much fun with such a rich history that you are bound to have a good time&#59; you will just know that there is a more rewarding version of this film in a different universe.

It gave me a mellow high.

Some of the scenes feel staged or, at least, prearranged, but [Cheech & Chong] still have chemistry, and the movie -- rich with clips and period footage -- serves up a tasty hunk of nostalgia.
