The Citizen Soldier film follows the heartfelt story of an ordinary group of civilians in Oklahoma's National Guard who willingly leave their families to serve in the United States Military. While battling in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan, these men experience difficult and life-changing circumstances as they sacrifice themselves to protect our beloved country. Never before have I seen such an authentic and genuine military documentary that accurately captures what it's actually like to be on the front lines. Using helmet-cameras to document their experiences in Afghanistan, these men provide the audience with a realistic and raw view into the harsh realities of war. After watching this moving film, I was left with a deeper appreciation and greater respect for the men and women who battle to guard the United States and its citizens. The startling gunshots and harsh conditions of their battles in Afghanistan gave the audience a greater perspective and insight into the difficult lives of military personnel. Their courage and bravery displayed while deployed oversees was truly amazing, and I thank directors David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud for inviting me into their inspirational and moving documentary that authentically displayed the duties of our armed forces.

Citizen Soldier follows the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team also known as "Thunderbirds", while spending a 96-day deployment in Afghanistan. What made this film special is that since the soldiers filmed it, audiences are able to see what really goes on while overseas. You see the bond that these men and women form, through the good times and the bad, and how they truly become a band of brothers. I thought this was an amazing movie, and it was really touching seeing how brave and dedicated these soldiers were when it came to serving our country. This is a movie you should absolutely watch if you haven't already.

Citizen Soldier is an unflinchingly raw and beautifully honest look at what it means to serve in the Armed Forces. This brilliant documentary removes all the obscuring political narratives that surround military affairs to give viewers a bias-free look at the day-to-day lives of soldiers, giving viewers a sense of the physical and mental stresses that the soldier endure during their service. Combining heart-stopping Go-Pro combat footage with emotionally wrenching interviews, David Salzberg's masterpiece is truly must-see filmmaking.

Citizen Soldier is about a group of everyday civilians in Oklahoma's National Guard who selflessly leave their jobs and families to fight on the front lines in the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan during post-9/11. I think that the interviews of the soldiers throughout the film were a great addition. They gave a personal and intimate look in to what the soldiers were actually feeling during their time abroad. The film is not only a tribute to our troops, but shows the brotherhood and love between the men and women and their commitment to one another. I have so much more appreciation for the sacrifice that these ordinary civilians make to fight for our country. I thought it was a unique and powerful film that is absolutely worth the watch.

A true story following the lives of ordinary citizens turned war heroes, Citizen Soldier captivates battle overseas unlike any other film I have ever seen. David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud document military life in such a powerful and immersive experience, with helmet-cam footage taken by the soldiers themselves as they fight on the front-lines. It was astonishing to be able to see what our soldier's face day in and day out, from the extreme weather conditions and rocky terrain, to just waiting for enemy fire. It was always startling as a viewer to hear gunfire and bullets flying, but it was inspiring to see how calmly and courageously they fought to protect each other. This footage is intercut with emotional personal accounts from our soldiers recounting war stories, talking about their home life and what they are giving up to protect our country, and above all their appreciation for the brother standing next to them in the battlefield. Their camaraderie, and the love and respect they share for each other is remarkable. A modern-day Band of Brothers, this film invites us to takes steps into our soldier's shoes, experiencing their courage and bravery.
