By the end, it overall was't really as bad as I expected it would be, based on my interest 20 or so minutes in. I would say it was just "alright" but not horrible. There was a repeated dramatically ominous background sound/score that was really distracting and felt like overkill. One story felt compelling but the others were run of the mill and mediocre. The general ending point of the arc was fairly predictable. It was free on my streaming service, so I wasn't terribly vested in how good or bad it would be. But if I rented or bought this movie hoping it'd be entertaining, I would have been disappointed.

I really expected this to be unwatchable. maybe draggy and boring. But it's not. It's a roller coaster following three couples over one critical night. It is violent, drug-filled and sexy. It's definitely not boring. No matter how happy the people seem at the beginning, each one faces major problems during the next ninety minutes. The only player I knew beforehand was Jim Gaffigan who was excellent in a sad and dark role. I would say his is the darkest character, but that would prove I hadn't watched the picture. Every character is making life-altering decisions on this night. This movie is worth watching. You definitely won't be bored.

Collide is a lot like a knock-off "Crash" and not nearly as well written. All the stories are connected except Phillippe and his date...and the treatment of everyone else's back story is a little trite.

I get what they were trying to do but the only real draw here is some of the casting. The camerawork/cinematography choice here is baffling. The zooming in and out and shaky camera style takes what should be tense moments and make them feel like parody or an episode of The Office. It's hard to root for any of the characters here because the little time we get to spend with each pair is filled with pretty standard dialogue and somewhat hard to believe motivations. Also how does an average woman/person sneak a bomb into a restaurant and strap it to a chair with no one noticing? Feels like more backstory was needed to care about any of these characters. Not a total waste of time but I wouldn't make it a priority to see this one.

The story was interesting enough to hold interest, but you'd better double dose yourself with Phenergan and Dramamine because the atrocious cinematography in this flick is going to make you up-chuck your breakfast and lunch. Either the cinematographer or director took an on-line class in cinema effects and though how hip it would be to film the whole movie...l mean EVERY SINGLE EFFIN SHOT with a handheld camera. And I don't mean with Steady-cam, I mean literally hand-held by someone who couldn't was either drunk or had the DTs and couldn't hold that camera steady for love of money. The camera shakes; the camera bobs; the camera weaves all over, times seeming like it's searching for the subject. Whatever the reason the filmmakers thought this effect would somehow add to the tense atmosphere, they were WRONG. All it does is draw attention to the possibility that whoever was shooting this film was incapable of a holding the camera steady. The opening credits of COLLIDE list half a dozen production companies who were "in association" with this this film and one has to ask...between all of them, they couldn't afford a damn tripod? This is the kind of movie they will use in college film courses to teach aspiring filmmakers how NOT to shoot a movie. I'm tellin ya, Dramamine.

Aside from its utter implausibility, the hand-held camera work in "Collide" is so annoying that you'll be seasick within 10 minutes. Apparently, the director thought that a shaky screen would be artistic. Trust, me; it's not. Story wise, "Collide" is somewhat derivative of "Crash". The three scenarios are interesting enough to hold your attention, just to see how they connect at the end. Well, they don't exactly connect. And the ending, while unexpected, will elicit mixed reactions from viewers. It's worth a watch, but enough with the hand held camera work. This director needs to be locked in a room and forced to watch Hitchcock movies for a straight week. Hitch never did cheap, unnecessary camera tricks. He didn't need to.

Collide plays around with several story-lines to bring those slowly together, but some of the stories linger on so long they become tedious and boring to the point you really don´t care what happens to any of the solutions.
