Compulsion
audience Reviews
, 85% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI like how the cast wasn't all star studded. The cast was picked precisely for each role and they fit their parts perfectly. Naturally Orson Welles portrays himself as the hero, but Dean Stockwell takes the cake for this performance. Dean Stockwell seems like he was never dealt well written movies besides this sole example. I can't recommend this movie enough as it is very relevant in today's world especially regarding the case of Luigi Mangione. Conservative Christians claim to be peaceful but the second someone is killed they smell blood in the water like sharks. I absolutely love when Orsen Welles turned to the courtroom crowd and yells "kill, kill, kill!" And then goes on to describe how the less we punish criminals with violence, the less crimes they commit, letting them suffer from their own problems instead of instigating their resentment towards others.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsNot a fan. Looked like a custom designed award picture for Welles to take center stage and wow us with his acting skills. Accepted punishment of the time was death and that's what they should have gotten. Not insane simply spoiled, entitled fiercely intelligent youth that played God with no remorse for any of it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsPulls on all of your emotions. Brilliant, but maybe not if you suffer from high blood pressure
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsA terrific period piece based on real life events from the 1920s. Dean Stockwell gives an outstanding performance in this film. It is especially impressive considering he was in his early 20s in this film. Orson Welles also gives an awesome performance, which was nothing new for him at this point in his career. The closing argument delivered by Welles was perfection. He was such a tremendous and often underrated actor. This is a well written, well directed motion picture. I absolutely love the shot when you see them in the reflection of the glasses. That was a nice touch. It indicated the "I got you" moment. Compulsion is a great film that I highly recommend. 94/100
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsSolid thriller and with a solid cast. Welles shines
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI consider this picture exceptionally well done.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsVery well done in every aspect. Based the same true story as Hitchcock's "Rope," with Jimmy Stewart. This film took place after the murder & to the end of the trial. Whereas, "Rope" took the story on to the bad guys getting caught.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsGreat cinematography, compelling story and top shelf acting. This had it all. It's based on true events. It's nice to be able to read up on those events and discover the movie was pretty much bang on. A must see film noir.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMy mother, born in 1925, referred to the true crime (that this movie was based on) w. sadness. Her family lived near this community & commented on the cold blooded, heartless killers w. no remorse. Movie was well acted; convincing criminals. Evil pervades.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe movie can be viewed as flawless in acting. The exception is for the ending where I do not think the movie did enough to put the actions of the criminal into the improbable meaning they should have actually shown the two convicted with scenes going to prison or into the prison environment. The film will not get full rating since it is based on previous crime.
