Confess, Fletch

It’s a great fit for Jon Hamm’s talents, and if you didn’t know Chevy Chase had done this before, there’s nothing to flag that the onscreen version didn’t originate with Hamm. He just slips straight into that skin.

The characters are so sharply drawn that the humour flows naturally. Forget the superheroes, Confess, Fletch starts the franchise we actually need.

One of the year’s best comedies...

There’s something turgid and defeated about it.

It’s amiable entertainment, and Hamm may well develop in the character if this becomes a franchise.

Even if you’re wholly unfamiliar with the franchise, Confess, Fletch will find fans among anyone who likes mystery-comedies, wickedly dry humour, and the sight of Kyle MacLachlan twirling glow-sticks to club music.

Hamm's portrayal is more roguish with a sharper wit, and the plot is less reliant on the broad humour and wacky high jinks of its predecessors.

This is an entertaining romp that deserves to not only find an audience -- but also at least a shot at a follow-up.

This movie is simply a joyless exercise in reasserting that just because you recognize your movie kind of sucks does not, unfortunately, stop it from sucking.

A terrific movie that eschews any comparison to Chase's hits entirely, offering something different in today's comedy and featuring a fresh and inspired Hamm. [Full review in Spanish]
