- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsFeaturing a captivating performance from Sam Rockwell and just a bit askew, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind is a solid directorial debut for George Clooney.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsCONFESSIONS OF A DANGEROUS MIND leverages high caliber writing, directing and acting to tell the psychologically-complex tale behind major changes in American (trash) TV content. I see Barris' assassin claims as a self-created allegory for the damage his life and work have inflicted on others. The film's open-ended approach and commitment to intelligent, psychological storytelling is admirable, but despite some entertaining twists and turns, it's a fairly dark and decidedly cautionary tale about the cost of ambition and failure to find love or connect with others.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsConfessions of a Dangerous Mind combines excellent debut directing from George Clooney and a delightfully appropriate screenplay for the subject. Engagement is enhanced through the audience experiencing a story being told that may or may not be true. Sam Rockwell excels as Chuck Barris. I would definitely watch this again.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA fascinating, weirdly entertaining and ultimately profound look at the life of Chuck Barris, one of the strangest phenomenas of the entertainment world in the late 1960s and early 70s.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsLike Barris's life, this film has ups and downs, I felt editing is quite uneven. but it's not that boring. Entertaining and good casting.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsI try to watch films with an open mind / no research. Loved this. Entertaining, well made, superb cast. and Rutger Hauer !
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsBlobbo never believe Chuckie Baby hit man for CIA.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsIn Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, director George Clooney and writer Charlie Kaufman take the standard biopic formula, rip it to shreds, and come up with something totally refreshing and original. Based on Chuck Barris' autobiography, it is an effectively disjointed telling of Barris' life from songwriter to game show producer to CIA hitman. While the veracity of his claims to be a hitman are questionable, it adds an interesting twist to an already interesting story. Clooney's direction is inventive and downright inspired at times, Kaufman's script is unsurprisingly brilliant, and Sam Rockwell does a great job as the enigmatic Barris. It's a non-stop rollercoaster ride - even those who have no idea who the hell Chuck Barris is will find it entertaining.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsTruly beautiful and engaging film, with wonderful twists and a level of tension that is always kept very good, without ever being heavy in any way. It's not much of a comedy from my point of view, but it's still a very good and sometimes funny film.
