Dabangg 2

This represents everything that is laughable about masala Bollywood movies and glorifies rampant 'macho' behaviour in sexist modern Indian society.

For Salman Khan fans, it's manna from heaven... Those who like a coherent narrative and dramatic arc, though, won't enjoy the ride so much.

Arbaaz, the director, keeps it moving, and that's wise. Because this is not the kind of film which should give you any time to think. Or blink. And then comes the second half, and things start sliding.

Mostly likable thanks to its creators' preference for lighthearted mugging over self-serious teeth-gnashing.

The framing is boring, the lighting is boring, the costumes are, for the most part, boring.

On the face of it, this is another one of those films that requires you to suspend all belief and watch it for Salman Khan. On another level, this is a film that angered me no end.

Dabanng 2 is Salman's show all the way.

This film might also end up raking in a much larger box office booty than Dabangg did. But assessed strictly as a pure entertainer designed for instant mass gratification, it isn't half as successful.

The cliches work because of the phenomenon called Salman Khan.

Dabangg 2 was supposed to be an absurd, raunchy masala movie, and it is, but not a good one.
