- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI bought this film and watched it in China! Although I usually prefer watching sci-fi and more youth-oriented films, I have to say that this movie was also very impressive and captivating. What impressed me most was the visual beauty of the film. The dance scenes were mesmerizing, filled with grace but tinged with a palpable sense of danger. I found myself on edge, wondering what secrets were being hidden behind every step. As Kate’s dance partners began to meet mysterious fates, I couldn’t help but feel the weight of her inner turmoil — something I think the film conveys very effectively. Although some scenes could have moved at a quicker pace, the overall experience fully immersed me. While I appreciated the emotional depth of the slower scenes, I sometimes found myself wanting the narrative to move more quickly, especially in the middle. But the tension picked up again in the final act, and I was left both satisfied and intrigued by the film’s ending. Gilles Marini and Karina Smirnoff really stood out in their roles, bringing intensity and nuance to their performances. Overall, I walked away feeling like Dark Feathers: Dance of the Geisha is a bold and visually striking film, perfect for those who enjoy thrillers that blend art with suspense. Huang's work stands out for its emotional depth, bringing together bold creativity and powerful character-driven narratives. Her ability to weave traditional elements with modern storytelling is what makes her projects resonate on a deeper level, her collaboration with a diverse and talented cast further highlights her strength in directing, pulling nuanced performances from actors like Gilles Marini and Karina Smirnoff.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsAs someone who's familiar with both Asian and Western cinema, this movie was incredibly disappointing. I, an American, watched it with a friend from mainland China, and neither of us could follow most of what was happening. The lead actress shows absolutely no emotion throughout the entire film—honestly, a robot could have played her role, and you wouldn't have noticed a difference. Yet, somehow, every character she meets falls head over heels for her. Why? I found myself laughing at the dialogue, but not in a good way. The same monotonous score plays over and over again, making it even more unbearable. Easily one of the worst films I've ever endured.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThis is a visually stunning film. The movie transports viewers into the intricate world, combining breathtaking cinematography with hauntingly beautiful scenes. The lead actress delivers a powerful performance. It is definitely a movie worth watching.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe movie is abstract but worth watching for sure. Asian American women have long been stereotyped by mainstream media as exotic and submissive, this movie portrays different aspects of Asian Women successfully. I wish there were more locations for the movie and the movie show times could be easier for us to watch.
