Dazed and Confused

It’s a strange film in many ways, affectless and directionless, coolly refusing the usual dramatic beats and climactic moments, and as unreflective as MOR rock.

The meaninglessness of it all is the meaning of the film.

Few of these people are going anywhere, but they are not going anywhere with style and dignity.

Very little actually happens but - like life - it's not always the events that define a time but the characters in it. And ''Dazed and Confused'' is bursting with wonderfully drawn and completely credible characters.

The teenage wasteland, 1976-style, of Dazed and Confused is smack-dab between The Brady Bunch and Children of the Damned , and it's a scary, if sometimes giddily amusing, place to visit.

Bet it makes you wanna dance.

The movie has such an effortless nature and a total sense of identity from the very start, making the characters and world that Linklater has built feel completely tangible and lived in.

This nostalgic, spot-on, and hilarious cult classic is Texas teens attempting to give themselves an adulthood rite-of-passage to escape 1970's suburban ennui.


Linklater, though, thinks everyone should have a chance to be who they are—or, like Mike briefly experimenting with being a tough guy, a chance to be who they aren’t.

The movie’s vibe is warm and good-natured, and we feel welcomed into the world of the cool older kids.
