Solid and entertaining 2000's British comedy with some genuine laughs

An enjoyable comedy that deals with a family going through all the craziness that comes with managing a funeral......so many enjoyable twist and turns that left me wondering how other people funerals are done.

Don't pay attention to the negative critical and audience scores for this movie on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb - this is one of the most enjoyable comedies I've watched in recent memory. I was shocked and delighted by how well I responded to this American remake of a 2007 British comedy, which incidentally also featured Dinklage. Frankly, it's not the sort of comedy to which I normally respond favorably - it's a bit broad and politically incorrect at times with a fair share of bathroom humor and gross-out sight gags thrown in for good measure. But in this case, everything worked beautifully. I can't remember a movie I've seen lately where the cast works so wonderfully well together, and almost each character is given at least a scene or two to shine. Everyone is going to have their own personal character and/or performance - my MVP has to be James Marsden who has never been funnier or more relaxed onscreen. That being said, there's not a false performance in the movie - this is ensemble comedy acting at its finest. Obviously, not everyone is going to respond as favorably as myself - I think it will be too over the top for some, and others may consider much of it in bad taste. But it hit my sweet spot, and I will forever be grateful to my friend and blog reader Steve Douglas for suggesting I watch this.

A good product to pass the time, but nothing more. The cast is also of a more than decent level, but there is little depth of writing of the characters and the whole thing looks somewhat caricatured.

    Hilarious movie. Really enjoyable film

I watched this on DVD, and I had high expectations given the comedic cast line up. Whilst I enjoyed some aspects of it, I found other parts slow and uninteresting. I also found the humour to fall flat at times, and on other occasions it felt forced and unnatural. I though the story needed more work, because too much time was spent at the house which became boring. I would have liked it to move on to a church, and then a cemetery, but it didn't. It wasn't the kind of funeral I had in mind, but it might be more familiar to a US audiance.

For a movie that is pretty much a scene for scene re-make, they have somehow managed to make a far inferior product. An achievement in it's self.

I honestly really liked it. Stupid humor and a fresh new story. Fun movie.
