Make sure to grab some popcorn because you're in for a big bite. This movie has multiple things going for it, visuals, top actors and story. The visuals are probably one of the best as far as shark movies go, as the film uses a mixture of real footage, animatronics and CGI. Sure some of the CGI could be better but for it's time and how everything was shot it leaves you wanting to stay out of the water. The real footage and use of animatronics for up close scenes, especially ones seen with Thomas Jane, bring a realistic feeling to the picture. The story may be science fiction but it brings along some real life thoughts in science today that could make it believable at times. The actors add an extra exciting touch to the film with well known actors like Samuel L Jackson, Michael Rapaport and Stellan Skarsgard, you'll surely want to stay on land after watching the cult classic Deep Blue Sea. As a last thought, you can depend on this movie for some definite scares and lots of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. Enjoy!

Deep Blue Sea is better than JAWS the revenge and is quite actually my guilty pleasure Shark Week movie to have fun and chill for summer shark movie.

It's from 1999, but it still works really well as an action-disaster-shark movie, with well-known faces in the cast. No wonder a sequel was made, but quite a few years later, and I'd be surprised if that is as good.

This was upsetting. The main takeaway here is an unrelenting nightmare of sharks, claustrophobia, and some of the most horrific and devastating deaths ever. These are on full display, shoved into the audience’s face with the force of a head-on collision with a Peterbilt. Although a solid thriller, these scenes are not only gruesome and shocking, they are extremely unpleasant to watch. Not sure why I loved this movie so much as a kid.

I have this on DVD and have watched it so many times. It's not going to win Oscars but it's a good watch. You can watch it multiple times, there's good action, good tension, the film builds to a strong climax. Yes it's cheese but it embraces that. I think people hate on it a bit too much for what is probably the second best shark film after jaws.
