Delicacy

Comedic actor Franois Damiens mines but never mocks Markus' awkwardness, thereby creating a winning portrait in decency. His tracing, with the ever-luminous Tautou, of the slow bloom of new love is a thing of understated beauty.

Although there's some meat on the menu, "Delicacy" ends up as lightly sugared and as gently bent as a fortune cookie.

It won't scare the chickens. It won't tax the brain. It won't scratch any tissue on its way down your gullet. It's another Audrey Tautou film.

Despite some tonal wobbles, and a vague sense of deja vu, it's rather charming, and sometimes genuinely sad.

Yes, variations of this story has been done many times before. But I love the sincerity, the humor, and the heart that permeates this entire picture.

Predictably whimsical and lightweight.

Co-directors David and Stephane Foenkinos (adapting the former's novel) ... play cute, shying away from ironic observation and relying too heavily on charm.

Audrey Tautou is the very embodiment of delicatesse - grace, refinement and distinction.
