Demon House

More superficial than supernatural.

While this particular "paranormal investigation" may terrify the more credulous among Bagans' fan base, skeptics are likely to feel bored and confused.

A scary story, but not helped by fright-flick FX.

It functions as a full-length episode of the show, only with a bigger budget, less reality TV-inspired theatrics, and non-bleeped cursing.

I think I was really hooked because of the structure... for me it was just an exceptional tale of filling in all of the details of the story.

Bagans is every one of us. He's the monster kid who wants to believe, just picked up a camera, and went for it. It's what makes the movie that much more accessible, believable, and ultimately more harrowing.

That said, despite the red flags, the story of the haunting is inherently creepy enough - and the recreations are polished and well-done enough - that Demon House genuinely makes your skin crawl.

It's definitely not for everyone, but it's amazingly entertaining...completely itself in a way a lot of movies aren't.

The expected slurry of chintzy re-creations, leading interview questions, and endless, tedious footage that doesn't reveal much of anything.

Bagans' handling of this information turns what could be an interesting exploration of a strange phenomenon into a three-ring circus.
