Design Is One: Lella & Massimo Vignelli

Yes, a little technically clunky and not picture perfect filmography, but what wonderful insight into the lives of such wonderful designers. I learned a lot from watching this. Every designer must watch it.

It may not be perfect, but I can't imagine this film not being an inspiration to any designer. I thought the production was fitting to Vignelli's minimal design aesthetic.

I have to agree with Mr. Marsh at the Village Voice, who wrote "The film lacks the elegance of form required to honor its subject." That said, it was still a fairly insightful and educational look at the works of the Vignellis. I came into it not knowing that much about this extraordinary couple and now I have a fairly good understanding of their contribution to design and their influence on society. The film accomplished the goal of bringing their lives and work to life for me. Because of that, I give it four stars.
