DESPICABLE ME 4 capably upholds the series' high standard of enjoyable, hilarious, and heartwarming entertainment. As Gru continues to grow out of villainy and into family life, however, the later films have inventively widened their reach to find more of that trademark 'despicable' punch. MINIONS 2 does this incredibly well, but DM4 is a little less successful, relying a little too much on dad jokes and a grab-bag of gags and sub plots that makes the film feel a little frenetic and unfocused. That said, there's still a lot to love, and a lot of laughs, and plenty to leave viewers ready for the next sequel.

Yeah I feel like ever since Despicable Me 3, Illumination kind of just stopped trying with this series, and it definitely shows here. Especially with the villain, who’s basically just Doofenshmirtz but Illumination-ized.

Overall a great film, but it lacked a good storyline. I don’t think they took a great approach with the villain, and it made the film seem unoriginal. They also should have brought back Dru into this film, and they even should have made him the antagonist. Illumination should learn from this film. They should realize that instead of making unoriginal and unnecessary villains, they should bring back fan favorites such as Vector, El Macho, and Dru. I do love the ending that showed all the villains from previous movies. Recommend watching but it is definitely not the best despicable me film.

After a weaker third installment, this one gets things back on track. But after four films and several spin-offs, the formula is starting to feel tired — time to stop here and bring in something fresh.

This movie proves to me that Illumination is milking every last drop and cent out of this franchise...
