Dream Horse

This is a small, sentimental and straightforward film that offers little in the way of surprises. Instead, it wins on heart and a simple message about the value in fighting to keep one's dreams alive.

"Hywl" is a Welsh word that is described on-screen as a "feeling of emotional motivation and energy" - and Dream Horse has certainly imbued its likeable story with plenty of "hwyl".

This is a character-driven movie and the horse is not the main character...

It's a story with all the hallmarks of a typically British feel-good movie in the tradition pioneered by the Ealing comedies of the post-WWII years when the country needed all the laughs it could raise.

The feelgood Brit-com is back!

Shamelessly predictable and thoroughly feelgood.

The real strength of this film lies in its tremendous cast of character actors led by Toni Collette and Damian Lewis.

It is only a supposed telling as it is primarily built around, at best, shallow re-creations, and, at worst, an active jettisoning of what should have been its most compelling aspects. 



A good drama that has the misfortune of coming after a fascinating documentary. Dark Horse will be the place to go to hear the story from those it happened to, but taken on its own merits this is the light, feel-good movie many of us might need this year.

The movie manages to be exactly what you would expect based on its logline, but it fulfills every expectation with crowd-pleasing confidence.
