Ek Thi Daayan

Ek Thi Daayan starts out as a well-acted, well-produced supernatural thriller, which could, and should, have climaxed with a knock-out punch. To which end, somebody should have walked across the wrap with a deft pair of webbed feet.

The inclusion of unnecessary background songs (not subtitled) and a romantic subplot result in a sluggishly paced story, which is further undermined by a lengthy flashback and a preposterous final reveal.

[The] childhood part of the story has some of the most terrifying scenes, including a hide-and-seek sequence that racks up the tension, and a pretty well-done ritualistic black magic sequence it culminates in.

Ek Thi Dayaan is a supernatural crowd pleaser that bypasses the usual Bollywood melodramatic themes and gives you lots of witchy chills.

Ek Thi Dayaan is better than it deserves to be.
