powerful film that showcases one of Will Smith’s finest performances to date. Inspired by true events, Smith delivers a deeply moving and transformative portrayal, capturing the resilience and determination of a man unwilling to be broken. This is a must-watch movie, one that every family should see to understand the strength of the human spirit and the importance of freedom.

The directing and cinematography were not great. Especially with the visuals. It's not entirely B&W with some scenes showing hints of coloration that just became distracting. Worth a watch but could have been so much better for a story with so much material to work with.

A very uninspiring and simplistic take on one of the most complex stories of US history. Boring and long winded for most of the movie which lacks a coherent narrative. Occasionally interesting but for very short periods of time. It misses the mark. Will Smith trying to sell that he’s Haitian is embarrassing and absolutely pointless. Disjointed and forgettable.

There are some movies that it just seems wrong to state that you “enjoyed” them. These are usually the ones based on the evil that men can do to their fell man. Those which fall into this category include Schindler’s List and many of those great films that cover the Holocaust. This movie I also place in that category. So much of it was a hard watch for me. Knowing that what was portrayed on screen didn’t even come close to the real events they portray. Blows my mind that this level of evil was accepted as the norm for so long. Not only that but long after June 19 1865 and after two world wars little boys and girls were not allowed to attend certain schools without the National Guard in attendance. So yes this was a good film. I did enjoy it. I’m just sad that it wasn’t a work of fiction.

I'm not a huge fan of will Smith but this movie was an absolute must see! I'm stimied by the poor ratings and the bad reviews. It was such a powerful and well acted drama that I cannot recommend it highly enough!

The movie may be about slavery, but what captured me was his faith and his strength to come back for his family. It is a must-see for everyone losing faith to the Almighty. As much as I would love to see the horrors of slavery, I loved the movie as they zoomed in on an aspect that I believe is the strongest foundation of strength, faith.

This movie reeks of pretentiousness and oscar baits. Will Smith is not at all a fit for this character.
