, 84% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsFurther proof than Korean cinema is miles beyond “Hollywood” in terms of telling stories that don’t suck. This has The Wailing levels of dread as well as great creature design and execution. Great casting, beautiful cinematography… the big drawback is that it feels like 2 movies stitched together more so than one complete narrative.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsDISAPPOINTING. (Spoiler Alert) Hmmm where should i start. Heard about this movie, saw great reviews about it, with RT SCORE OF 93%!!! So i thought its a must watch and made time for it. Had my interest early on, but slowly it got boring, felt sleepy, and had to think where is this going. From suspected ancestor moodiness, to suddenly a Japanese Shogun stuck in the war era doing what again in that Korean land? The motive of that angry Shogun is vague, why is he so unrest? Ok probably bcos the Korean shaman locked him there. Why Parks Grandpa was buried there? The whole ancetral-turned-KoreanJapan-war theme had me confused. What's the connection??? Why are those 2 buried at same site? Not explained in the movie. The grandson who was ill, his story was superficial. Not impressive at all considering you start the movie with it. Yes we saw bit more of that baby (compared to how less Annabelle was shown in Conjuring, only at intro and no more throughout the movie), but still it left a sour taste to me even though they did a great suspense scene with the kid once the grandpa was "freed". The movie end and im more dissatisfied than satisfied. It surely had nice moments eg 1st exhumation, the scene grandpa Park calls Park and visit him in his condo, etc, but overall it seems they tried to make something big but end up elaborating little so it left felt wanting more than feeling satisfied. So this is one of those highly rated RT movies but is probably waste of time for me.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsDecent movie that made me research alot about it's details, as i was in the dark about all the weird stuff happening during the runtime. After researching it's meaning, etc i am of the opinion that this is a solid one, and a good tie in with actual korean and japanese history.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsDefinitely recommend it. Good direction, screenplay and most Important of all "Story ". It has Story and a great story not like those movies which only depends on cultural and religious references to put on a show.this movie actually uses that perfectly with good balance.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely brilliant and genre defying! A fantastic watch.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsSmart, richly layered mystery that unfolds in a really interesting and unique way. The scares aren't always all that effective, but the movie is nonetheless consistently thrilling and a whole lot of fun. As an American, I also really enjoyed how culturally rich the film is. I learned a lot about Korean history and folk beliefs.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsI didn't enjoy it. It felt like there was too much story to tell. Would have been better as a TV series. The first 30 minutes were interesting but it got too complicated and silly in my opinion
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI like that Korean horror movies do lean on their cultural, religious root for creativity. Makes it different and refreshing compare to repetitive, unoriginal nature of mainstream ghost horror. Performances are great, especially one Kim Go Eun is breathetaking.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA great South Korean horror film, Exhuma is strange & wild, with outstanding acting, some gorgeous cinematography & taut direction.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsDefinitely a great watch. The story was enticing and the conclusion was satisfying. I just wish they wouldn't shy away from character deaths, it would've made the movie feel much more intense.
