Fiend Without a Face

The acting was subpar, and the plot was fairly typical of 1950s sci-fi flicks. I did like the creepy touch of keeping the monsters invisible until the very end. For its time, the stop-action special effects were pretty good. Also, the thought of creating creatures from a mind control ability was pretty terrifying. This trope was also explored in the movie "Forbidden Planet".
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA little better than the average Creature Feature from it's time due to it's impressive special effects.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsWhile it's very short, full of disposable characters and poor writing the monsters and stop motion effects are surprisingly good. An very decent entry into the 50s Monster Craze
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsWatchable nonsense. Cheesy, surprisingly gory, with an attractive lead girl that helped hold my attention.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsOverall, Fiend without a Face works as a 50s science fiction film that at times may be a little cheesy or far stretched, works. For the time, and on a tiny budget, it is a successful creature film with some amazing stop animation. If you're into older sci-fi, you'll find yourself eating this up.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThis 1958 horror film had an interesting premise but in the end it just fell flat. The special effects actually hold up well. They are not the best I have ever seen but they are decent for their time and hold out fairly well. The cast gives a decent performance as well. Again they are not fantastic but they do a good job given the script they have. I just found "Fiend Without a Face" to be very slow moving and frankly boring. It took forever to get to its conclusion and I was battling to stay awake at one point. I also found the professor's explanation of how his telepathy experiments gone wrong created the evil creatures to be confusing and difficult to follow. "Fiend Without a Face" is not terrible, but in the end, there are just too many problems with the movie for me to recommend it. The movie is not worth your time.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsthe late 50s were a great time for sci-fi
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThis is a movie of its time when atomic/nuclear energy and weapons were a new idea. I like the idea and I almost want someone to remake this movie with better special effects.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsAbysmal fifties nuke 'thriller', this time set on a Canadian (yeah, right) airbase where a cast of shockingly bad actors pretend to be scared by a thing that is mostly invisible (cue rustling bushes and mimed death grips) until the budget allows us to see the stop-motion brains that fly through the air to attack and terrify. Ed Wood would have been ashamed.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA fun 1950s Sci-Fi romp, but more of a B feature. Well worth a watch if you like these, but not a strong choice.
