Maddie Ziegler gives a fearless performance as a teen girl navigating romance, sex, and a complicated medical diagnosis.

It’s a compelling journey through an unconventional adolescence, but it’s also not a completely foreign depiction of young adulthood, particularly for those who have a complicated relationship with their gender and sexuality.

The film and its characters mince absolutely no words and leave almost nothing to the imagination when it comes to portraying sexuality, pain, shame, confusion, and how all of them intersect.

Maddie Ziegler gives a poignant performance as Lindy in a coming-of-age drama that touches upon a part of adolescence rarely explored on film.

Although there’s an increasing number of films on related subjects, this is the first to adopt the language of mainstream cinema with such success.

Fitting In has a great cast and explores a compelling story of non-normative female bodies. There's a few issues with the film's messaging, but overall it's pretty enjoyable and Maddie Ziegler makes a strong impression in the lead role.
