I appreciate this movie so much more now given that I just witnessed a horrible adaptation of it lol, I’d much prefer this!

Completely laugh-free... so unless the Asian-Australian angle is something you'd like to see in an Australian rom-com, avoid...

So many RomComs now available with the streaming services that in some ways they're all quite similar. But I liked the dynamics of this and the Chinese culture angle in Australia. In particular, I really thought the tea shop was so quaint and the main protagonist shone brightly on screen.

A typical rom com that plays on Chinese cultural tropes with untraditional possibilities based in Australia. Not groundbreaking. Cringy moments with a predictable ending.

Five Blind Dates is a beautiful, intelligent and uplifting romantic comedy. There's many original jokes. You'll be bursting out loud at the most unlikely moments, but it never distracts from the poignant moments. Shuang Hu's Lia is vulnerable, yet heroic. She can play along, but also take responsibility. She faces choices rather than being swept along by fate. She can make a spectacular scene or deliver an emotional punch with equal ease. The standard rom-com tropes are not here - no grand romantic gesture, no makeover reveal or profound thesis on love. Five Blind Dates is fast-paced, original and entertaining - more smiles than tears. Highly recommended.

It's the kind of movie that you just want to watch something that wouldn't upset you. Time to kill, my silly, I don't want to think movies, just watch don't analyze.

The most average and predictable romance movie I've seen in years. And this is coming from someone with a low bar for a trashy romcoms.
