Flight Risk

The plot and runtime had me hoping it’d be a throwaway of the Edgar G. Ulmer variety, but alas, it’s kind of a mess, made worse by the Mark Wahlberg character’s indiscriminate sadism.

A really cool idea, but the dialogue is terrible. I hate this script so much... There's a crassness that is really unnecessary.

It won’t win any awards for originality but Flight Risk is a fun, unpretentious, tight 91 minutes — especially if you’ve always jonesed to see Downton Abbey’s Lady Mary cream someone with a fire extinguisher.

There are a few mildly ingenious twists and contrivances, but overall, it’s all cynically functional, hair’s-breadth mid-air escapes and all.

It is catastrophically bad.

Flight Risk, directed by Mel Gibson, is a B movie that stretches its plot to the limit and manages to pull a mostly entertaining ride out of a seemingly dead- end premise.

Gibson does eventually land the plane in one piece, but the ride is so bumpy that it’s hard to imagine any passengers clapping.
