For Greater Glory
audience Reviews
, 78% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA great movie that includes the story of St. José Sánchez del Rio, a 14 year old boy that was martyred during the Mexican Cristero War in the 1920's. I highly recommend!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsit is a extremely moving and compelling story, and I cried many times. and it portrays very well a time in history untold in classrooms, a time where catholics were persecuted and freedom of religion was restrained in a cruel and evil way. very great portrayal and I just love it.(side note: the death of saint Jose is accurate to his death almost every part I just loved that)
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsFor Greater Glory is a passible movie that illustrates the conflict known as The Cristero War. It's hard to judge this movie, because it is made primarily for one audience, that being devout Catholics, and this movie very heavily panders to them. You can judge it based on it's merits as a movie or you can judge it based on what it's trying to do. If you balance out the two of them, I'd give it a 7/10. If you want a to learn more about the Cristero War, go ahead and watch it, it's alright.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is a really good film. Classic in its depictions of heroes and villains. There's good drama without the gratuitous violence. There's a hint of old-school romanticism in there.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe cast, the storyline, and the score were compelling on the big screen. I found it just as moving when streaming at home. It’s a work of art.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsLoved the storyline in a little known historic episode.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsA forgotten history of how Marxism in North America made war on Christianity... Remember: history may not repeat, but is does rhyme... get ready for the next stanza.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAwesome movie in the old Holywood epic heroic vein, sure beats all the weird movies that are being shown nowadays. A Must see if you like old Hollywood movie
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI was shocked to find this movie rated 1 star on Roku and by the many here on rottentomatoes. This is a true story people! It was well played and filmed. The only rottentomatoes in this bunch are those rating this movie as 1 star. That story is nothing short then what the Nazi's did to the people of the Holocaust. Shame on you 1 star lame brains.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI see so many people criticizing the script as something too elementary or classroom-style. Well, I guess haters gonna hate. Whatever, really. Personally, I appreciate that for once, we have a movie that ACTUALLY came pretty accurately to the historical events, and still managed to portray them decently. Better than most films that claim to be "based on a true story" in order to attract views, but actually grossly twists the events simply because they can't think of a nice way to portray the actual historical events. This film could certainly be improved in some aspects, but overall, it was a good attempt despite the challenges, and so I rate it five stars for the effort. Viva Cristo Rey.
