Freaked

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars"Freaked," a film released in 1993, centers around a toxic chemical that mutates individuals into what are dubbed "freaks." As the title suggests, the movie delivers exactly what you’d expect from that premise: it’s corny, cheesy, and somewhat laughable. Finding this film proved to be quite a challenge; I eventually managed to track it down on YouTube. Unfortunately, the movie suffers from poor writing and feels like a misguided attempt by the director to craft a quintessential 90s flick. While many films from that era have a certain charm—even the cheesy ones that manage to entertain and evoke a sense of nostalgia—this one simply doesn’t hit the mark. I can’t say I would want to watch "Freaked” again. To me, it came off as utterly ridiculous and nonsensical. However, I can see how younger audiences, particularly children or those in their early twenties, might find it amusing and entertaining. It’s not my preference, but the film does embody that classic 90s spirit filled with goofy antics that aim to keep viewers engaged and laughing. In that sense, it fulfilled its purpose for its time, but it hasn’t aged gracefully, leaving little impact for anyone who might stumble upon it today. If you’re in the mood for something humorous, you might give this film a try. Just be prepared to feel a bit dazed and foolish afterward, as its absurdity teeters on the edge of complete silliness.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars“Styrofoam cup.” This movie was always playing on TV when I was a kid. I must’ve watched it half a dozen times. It weirded me out every single time, but I loved it so much.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsSomeone in the audience reviews wrote 'I don't know why I liked this movie, but I did.' I agree. Watched this on the YouTube Creature Features channel recently and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was with several laugh-out-loud moments. And I don't usually laugh out-loud! I don't know how I've never heard of this film before, but now that I've given up on modern Hollywood, finding quirky gems like this to watch is golden. If you like absurdist humour, good 80s-90s practical creature effects and a healthy serving of cheese, this movie is for you. I've read it's considered a minor cult classic. It deserves higher cult status in my opinion. Enjoy!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsI love this movie. Had completely missed it when ‘released' but only just saw it a cpl of years ago. It is the movie i was missing in my early teen years
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI watched this movie this weekend, and I thought it would just be cheesy, cause y'know, it's a 90s film and just looking at the poster I thought it would be cheesy, no offence, But it actually matched my sense of humour and I couldn't stop laughing most of the movie because of the random events that Just, Happen. The characters are amazing and original too, and it may have a weak plot and the plots just there for jokes, but it's still an amazing movie, in my eyes though, probably not in most critics eyes cause critics are a^^holes. But they probably didn't even watch it. lol. Anyways, if I had to give it a rating it would probably be 8/10, not too bad, not too good, it's just right. :)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsOne of the best comedies of the 90s. Tragically underrated, this is absolutely worth your time. Great cast! Brooke Shields, Bobcat Goldthwait, Alex Winter, Mr. T, and even Keanu Reeves in an uncredited part as the DogBoy!
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThis is a totally ridiculous film that is actually quite funny. It is done in the style of a MTV music video but gets quite insane. The comedy is fast-paced and ridiculous. That is the only way it could have been with this kind of movie. It reminded me of a tame version of Basket Case 2 (1990) and Basket Case 3 (1991). It also reminded me of X-Men (2000) a tiny amount. Freaked seems to have been made for children unlike the Basket Case movies. Oh yeah, I forgot, this reminds me of Society (1989) as well. There are a bunch of freaks and they have a funny story and little violence or gore to be spoken of. I enjoyed it! It is madness.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI was not a 90's kid, I didn't grow up enjoying gross-out jokes or crude humor, and I never quite understood this brand zaniness that Alex Winter is trying to sell here... But by God, he sold it to me. I love this movie. Every single actor is absolutely having a blast (except Mr. T, according to Winter) and it absolutely shines through in their performance. The script is absolutely hilarious, full of jokes, and so fast-paced that if one joke doesn't land, there's gonna be another one in two seconds that makes you forget all about that. For a movie about a freak show, this movie really doesn't have a mean bone in its body. Keanu Reeves is amazing, Alex is amazing, and Randy Quaid gives - what I believe to be - the best performance of his career. I've bought this film on Blu-Ray and I even bought the soundtrack on vinyl, it is one of my favorite films of all time, just for when I need to kick back and laugh hysterically. Needless to say, with the year I've had, this movie is better than therapy. Watch it! It's an acquired taste, but if it sticks, it sticks with you forever.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsWeird, but enjoyably weird
