I enjoyed it very much...and learned how many great movies Friedkin
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
While it never really delves too deeply into why William Friedkin was the way he was, Francesco Zippel's Friedkin Uncut is an excellent primer for anyone not familiar with the iconic director's oeuvre. The film alternates between interviews with the always irascible and outspoken Friedkin and those he worked with, focusing primarily on his most productive period, the 70s, where he directed three of the decade's most iconic films – The French Connection, The Exorcist, and Sorcerer. Granted, Zippel feels like he's fawning over his subject at times, pretty much avoiding a two decade period of mediocrity, but Friedkin Uncut remains an interesting viewing experience based simply on the mercurial temperament of the subject.
