Funhouse

A punishing social media satire.

The film would have benefited from a compelling villain rather than its peevish, sneering dude dropping wan witticisms...

Throughout, it's difficult to sort the contrivances that writer-director Jason William Lee is parodying from those he's indulging.

Unevenly paced and insistent on spelling out its themes in leaden dialogue, Funhouse isn’t the trenchant social commentary it wants to be, nor is it fun enough to enjoy with your brain turned off.

Occasionally even bad films feature great ideas.

Even die-hard horror fans will be disgusted by the abyss of stupidity and awful filmmaking in Funhouse. There are trash dumps and toilets that have more redeeming qualities than Funhouse.

Funhouse wants to be seen as a clever take-down of violence and reality television but does not quite hit the mark in either area.

Funhouse is maybe a bit too self aware and sees itself as more clever than it is...

Funhouse has a clever idea, but this is the kind of movie that continually comes up just a bit short in every area.
