- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsGirls Will Be Girls” is a wonderful coming-of-age drama written and directed by Indian born Shuchi Talati in an impressive feature debut. Set in a boarding school in the Himalayan foothills. The story deals with Mira, an Indian teenager experiencing first love and subsequent sexual awakening, at the same time dealing with her relationship with her protective mother and her strict Indian culture. It may be a familiar coming-of-age story, but its backdrop and the way it’s told is not. Mira, played by a terrific, (Preeti Panigrahi). Mira is a stoic character and when no words are spoken a lot is going on with her looks. The rest of the leads are excellent, (Kesav Binoy Kiron) as Srinivas her love interest and (Kani Kusruti) as Anila, Mira’s mother. I was totally engaged in Mira’s journey of self-discovery. The film has an uncomfortable tension between the mother and daughter relationship. I loved Talati richly detailed and sensitively directed film. She beautifully captures the power of a look or a touch of a finger. It is a tender and nuanced film. It’s an observant film. The film ends with a poignant and affecting last moment that got to me. It was nice to discover a film I had not heard much of through Film Independent, Spirit Award nominee consideration.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsShuchi Talati's Girls Will Be Girls is a very well made story of adolescence driven by a fantastic cast. An important theme of Girls Will Be Girls is sexual awakening portrayed aesthetically with no titilation. A strong aspect is the complex mother and daughter dynamics. Kani Kusruti continuing her brilliant act portrays an over protective mother. Here too she does a superlative job of bringing out the inner turmoil of a mother who is grappling with her own desires while being a controlling mother. Preeti Panigrahi on the other hand also does a very fine job in portraying the vulnerability, defiance and the contradictions a teenager goes through. - Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMost beautiful story i had watched this year till now its january but i think it ends in my top movie list one request from my side don't skip the silences in film, sometimes silence is more important than dialogue. First time you will know the women side on love story and how much they faces in their daily life. We as a man so privilaged its just that no one can beat the suffering of women......!.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI'm not into romantic stories, especially teenage romance and I hate them no matter what, but this movies is one the BEST LOVE STORIES I have seen. People who don't want to see it for being a romantic movie, trust me it's not a regular love story of a girl and a boy.
