Gods and Generals
audience Reviews
, 64% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsGreat movie. Recording an episode in American history. Of course in modern times we are required to judge history and accord such records as good or evil remembering history and showing it remains important. This is a fictional account so isn’t 100% accurate but is still valuable.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsYes there’s an element of one-dimensional acting and script writing and this film isn’t a lesson in great movie making. But a lot of the criticism is for its supposed pro-Confederate narrative. I think this is disingenuous, It’s tied to an equally false post-modern, comfortable interpretation that all in the South were evil. The film doesn’t aim to re-write the wickedness of slavery or even suggest the southern cause was based on any righteous foundation. Indeed it shows the complexities facing both soldier and civilian alike. If the southern motives look foolish, shallow and outdated (even by 19th C standards) then the film is surely achieving its aim in showing people (some of whom were genuinely decent) can uphold a misguided and even wicked cause. There is a lot in this film worthy of criticism. There is s lot too worthy of attention.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsVery accurate, great movie.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsYikes this was terrible. Terrible as a movie, terrible as a history lesson. Save your self this self-righteous speechifying waste of time and give this a miss.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsA terrible movie for terrible people about worthless traitors.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI understand now why the MSM didn't like this. It's romantic and actually nice to both sides.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsPeople and "critics" who whine about this movie being "Pro-Confederate" are just ignorant of true history. This film portrayed history very well, which globalists and leftists hate.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsAlmost unwatchable with bad acting but supporting cast, music way over done, and very glorified look at the civil war. It also made slavea look pretty happy and rebels were just fighting invaders.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsThis movie is infamously a complete mess. The Extended Version is better, but this movie is still littered with appallingly bad history. Stephen Lang was brilliant as Jackson, but the rest of the movie is a disaster.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsWay too long and slow.
