It is worth the time, is not a feel-good movie, is an honest depiction of the people of their time, and is well-based on actual information. If you had read the conquest of Mexico records from Sahagun you would put in images of what Sahugun was describing in words. It might be a history assignment for college or high school students. It is an entertaining way of understanding human nature on its darkest side.

Once you assume the reality of American conquest, quite predictable, but a good symbol of all what was beneath.

Fun movie. I preferred Warner Herzog’s Aguirre, The Wrath of God as a more engrossing story from the same time period.
