- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsTerrible movie with cringe dialogues and poor performances from most of the cast. The plot is very poorly written and makes no sense. Neither the mystery nor the comedy work.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA quirky little cutie.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsI would think you either really hate this movie, or enjoy it. I would imagine there is little in between. I love Jeff Garlin. He is a raunchy stand up comedian, and best known for playing Larry David's manager on Curb Your Enthusiasm. This role is a slight variation of that persona. Even the title is funny knowing Garlin is the star, and the Directory, writer etc. He plays a Detective on the hunt to uncover the murderer of his neighbor's babysitter. The characters are strong. The comedy is stupid, but that's the point. Not much of a mystery, at all. It is an enjoyable spoof.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsI love Jeff Garlin very much, but this is something really, really awful.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt was watchable. Some smart chuckles. Not a masterpiece, but I wouldn't tell someone not to watch it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsLove all of it. The actor's play, the face expression de Lyonne, the sweet despair of Jeff. A beautiful little gem
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsHorrible movie! Boring, disjointed, and an absolute yawner...This dud also has a lot of weird, twisted pervert stuff in it. No wonder Netflix is losing subscribers by the boatload.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIn my opinion, a nice and funny film with a perhaps slightly drawn-out ending and logical plot processes that are not very sensible. But in the end the movie is fun and that's what's important in the end and otherwise acceptable and enjoyable
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt's nothing earth shattering, it's kind of odd & kooky, some nutty idiosyncratic moments, but if you like Jeff Garlin & put him as a LA lovable schlubby detective instead of Larry David's manager & you're cool with that, I think you'll enjoy this movie. I did. I luv Jeff Gariin, I think merely his voice can sometimes bring forth a smile. For some reason he seems to be kind of on the verge of retirement from the PD as his whacky (senile?) Captain keeps asking for his retirement papers. He's mentoring a bunch of younger future detectives who seem kind of lost. His partner is an all out gruff lady nympho, his new neighbors are a mother & daughter, the daughter seems like Wednesday's cousin from the Addams Family. So you kinda get the idea about this universe. And Jeff Garlin in the middle of all this pulls it off. No shootouts, no car chases, some Columbo following hunches, playing 45 records on his record player hoping to fall in love with his neighbor &....Don't mind all the curmudgeon reviewers bashing this, don't know what they were expecting. "It is what it is" as the phrase goes (as used in this movie as well). Enjoy, with the right mindset...
