A steampunk violent version of the Grimm fairytale starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton The opening stays close to the old story of two siblings being captured by a witch then they escape having to burn her in the oven From then on Hansel & Gretel become witch exterminators and there's a plot where dozens of children are kidnapped from which they have to stop They also get help from a giant troll of all things I didn't hate this but it is very highly forgettable Clearly made for 3D especially when it comes to the gory kills The costumes are cool don't get me wrong and you got some cool supporting players like Famke Jansen, Peter Stormare, and Thomas Mann This is pure fantasy, over-the-top goofy, don't-take-me-seriously in action and dialogue both This just goes by so quick it leaves little of an impression The filmmakers I think attempted to do another 'Van Helsing' but came up short in a few spots Yet it's still technically well made and offers serviceable, albeit mindlessly serviceable, entertainment Disposable but not the worst thing out there

I loved this film! It was fun, beautifully shot, and the makeup was amazing. Now, we're not talking oscar here, but just a great witchy film with great actors.

Siblings Hansel & Gretel are just children when their father takes them out into the woods at night and leaves them there all alone. The children come upon a house in the woods... a Gingerbread house! As they enter the house, a witch captures them and chains them, forcing Hansel to eat candy. But Hansel and Gretel manages to get free and they throw the witch into her own oven, burning her alive Now many years later, having killed hundreds of witches, Hansel and Gretel have become famous mercenary witch hunters for hire. "Me and my sister... we have a past. We almost died at the hands of a witch. But that past made us stronger. We'd gotten a taste of blood. Witch blood. And we haven't stopped since." - Hansel So when the children in the town of Augsburg start to disappear, stolen away by witches, the Mayor hires Hansel and Gretel to find them and bring them back. But these are no typical witch kidnappings. This is a gathering. The gathering of all the witches all over the world to the Blood Moon, and to the most powerful grand dark witch herself, Muriel. Now Hansel & Gretel have only three days before the Blood Moon to save the children from a horrific death. Wow! I have never seen witches like this. This is not the children's fairy tale I grew up with. This is some serious child eating, butt kicking, broom riding, killer witches. The fights between the hunters and the witches are so Awesome! I really like this edgy Hansel & Gretel revenge flick. Just a totally Bloody entertaining movie. Cast - Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare

Somehow they made a worse version of Van Helsing. I don't know how but they did it. The acting & pacing is just atrociously bizarre. It never stops with ridiculous BS and has no concept of how to build up suspense and just floors it nonstop. The editing and cinematography is bad. Every action scene is over the top with ridiculous gore and just dumb crazy action. There is no character development, the villian is laughably bad and honeslty one of the stupidest I've ever seen. It jumps around constantly between the villian, Hansel, and Gretels storylines and most of the time never makes it feel cohesive. So many scenes are dark, dull, too dark to see, on top of being over the top ridiculous. The music is ok but a mess overall. It's generic or over the top rock. On top of all this, this has a terrible tone problem. I can't tell if this is supposed to be a comedy or serious action with bad dialouge. It never is clear. You really have to turn your brain off to make it through this. I can't recommend this to anyone.

Not the best but not upset I took the time to watch it - twice now.

Clever and entertaining spin on the fairy tale; Renner, Arterton and Janssen are excellent casting, and perform the roles with ease. Just a good fantasy action film; which are far too often underrated by insecure critics trying to prove something.
