Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor
audience Reviews
, 80% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWhile it has loose connections to the whole story Hell House LLC Origins still proves to be scary and a fantastic prequel.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsOne of the worst movies I’ve seen. Along the lines of Blair Witch. Annoying characters and a lot of whining.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsReally well done found footage film, and for a fourth film in a franchise, it was a pretty great movie overall. Love the connections to the original trilogy as well as the more in-depth exploration of the established lore of the series overall. Definitely worth the watch if you're a fan of the franchise and found footage horror films in general.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsAnnoying main character. Creepy clowns and some good, slow burn tension. Decent.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWay way better than you'd expect considering it's like the 4th sequel at this point. These filmmakers consistently deliver top-notch found footage horror; the 2nd and 3rd installments declined a bit in quality, but this is the best one yet. It doesn't break new ground or anything like that but it does what it's trying to do absolutely perfectly. I was invested from the get and terrified throughout. I'm also really impressed that it's a complete 180 in terms of aesthetics from the first film, which took place in a claustrophobic, crowded space at a fast clip, while this one occupies empty spaces and relies on long, tense, still takes. And is still just as effectively scary. Well done.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsBest Hell House LLC film since the first and may even be better than the original. Nobody can conjure up genuine discomfort and tense fear like Steven Cognetti. Even I sleep with the lights on after these movies. Nothing is scarier
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThe entire HellHouse series is really well done, and this is no exception. The spooks keep coming until the end. The movie is freaky, and will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsI haven’t hid under a blanket or peaked between my fingers in a long time… this one was good.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsHell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor tries to recapture the magic of the franchise, but unfortunately, it misses the mark for a series that’s otherwise been so solid. For fans who loved the original trilogy’s gritty, indie feel, the shift to a more polished production under Shudder’s wing feels like a step back rather than forward. There’s something lost here—a kind of raw authenticity that made Hell House LLC feel real and immersive. This time around, the scares feel forced, and the story struggles to reach the same level of intrigue. That being said, they did get one thing right: the clown. In true Hell House fashion, that clown remains just as unnerving as ever. It’s that same eerie, silent presence that made it a staple of the franchise, and whenever it appears, it brings back a flash of the dread that made the earlier films so effective. But even with the clown’s creepy presence, the film doesn’t quite live up to the legacy it’s trying to expand on. Ultimately, The Carmichael Manor feels like it’s trying too hard to evolve the franchise, but the heart of Hell House LLC—that indie, low-budget horror magic—gets lost in translation. If you’re a fan of the series, it’s worth a watch for nostalgia’s sake and for that chilling clown, but if you’re looking for the same energy and suspense of the original trilogy, this one might fall a little flat.
