Best Chinese movie in 2023

While historical accuracy is questionable, great performances and a picturesque aesthetic deliver a great movie.

Wang Yibo seriously never fails to impress me. This movie was amazing and I honestly didn't expect anything less. Though the beginning was confusing, it all made sense towards the middle, and I think that it made the plot all the more enjoyable. Definitely recommend if you love Wang Yibo and his work!

Boyish-faced WangYiBo is fantastic in the few fight scenes he is in, but the rest of the time he is rather wooden and expressionless. Tony Leung ChiuWai is as fantastic as he always is in this terrific wartime espionage film Directed by ChungEr. The movie depicts a certain spy ring and is set in WWII era Shanghai under Japanese Occupation. Personally i found it to have a very similar atmosphere, tempo, look and style, storyline and plot to films like LeeAng classic LUST, CAUTION (Se, Jie) and the fairly recent ZhangYiMou movie, CLIFF WALKERS, which was also set in the puppet state of Manchukuo in the 1930s. In HIDDEN BLADE, we basically follow the spies tangled web story as they maintain their underground dealings, and see how they risked their lives to send intel and defend the Chinese Motherland during the War of Japanese Aggression & Occupation. The movie is set after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor when the Wang JingWei Manchurian puppet regime actually declared war on Britain and the U.S. Watching this film should prompt you to want to look it up and learn more about that largely unknown era in China's turbulent history. Small sections of the film could have benefitted from trimming and editing for the sake of speed & tempo, as there are a few moments here n there that lag a bit, but generally speaking HIDDEN BLADE is a fascinating and engaging watch. The Japanese Cast are just as tremendous in their roles as the Chinese are in theirs. I am certainly looking forward to seeing what ChengEr directs next! 🎯🎯🎯🎯

Esta película es muy buena, la vi solo por un actor del elenco, pero mientras transcurría la película me fue enganchando tanto en todo lo que pasaba. Muy buen trabajo de parte del elenco de Hidden Blade.

The visuals of this film are very attractive, the plot twists are unpredictable, the storyline is so good.. don't forget about the cast.. Wang Yibo and Tony Leung are very good at channeling their emotions.. even though this film was confusing at first but this film is very good if you can understand quickly... And this film has a soundtrack that is very pleasant to listen to

This movie is a must see! Excellent story plot and the twist is so unexpected. Can’t get enough of the character, Mr Ye. Wang Yibo really brought his A game!
