Higher Power
audience Reviews
, 45% Audience Score- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI love movies like this. They're overall visual style was endearingly artistic. There were several times where I questioned the character's development, but this movie kept me on the edge of my seat begging like a b*tch to see more. The only complaint I have is the movie's CGI and background/lighting combinations were off at times. Even backgrounds being of higher resolution that the actors and props themselves, BUT I'm not a fecking lunatic so I'm not gonna to include that in the over-all rating because budget contraints are a b*tch. Love this movie. If this movie had a human embodiment I wiukd treat it like a toe and bang it against every piece of furniture in my house.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsHigher Power is a mixed bag. It is really high concept, and they do a great job with the CGI given what is CLEARLY a limited budget. That being said, the filming is all very dark to hide the low budget, and all the purple flashy lighting is for sure going to set off someone's seizures. Acting is so so, and the family drama subplot was entirely too long and drawn out. The final 5 minutes was a bit cheesy with a knock-off Dr Manhattan.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsHigher Power is a tedious experience because of a script that spends too much time on the boring parts of the story, reiterating over and over the problems of the protagonist and his generic family drama. However, there are remarkable ideas spread out sporadically during the film's development, as well as fantastic imaginatively conceived images that challenge its small budget.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis wasn't even average at best. D grade acting to say the least. Wasted my money on renting this
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsNo matter how reviewers try to build it up saying it's "different" or has "nuance" or whatever, this movie SUCKS. The nonsensically idiotic sci-fi premise stays quagmired in annoying dysfunctional family melodrama so that you lose interest before anything happens.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis movie is so slow, dragging on. Half the movie is over and just starting to be the slightest bit entertaining......Zzzzzzzzz,
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsAn okay watch, probably won't watch again, and can't really recommend. I don't really have anything good to say about the cast: Colm Feore is kind of a typecast "creepy villain" and he work the role as best he could, and the only other person I recognized was Jordan Danger (Eureka) (I completely didn't recognize Jade Tailer (Magicians). This was clearly a passion project on a budget, and production value is good fro what it looks like, but it's surprising to recognize this as a 2018 movie. The concept was magnificent, but the writing just wasn't very strong: I'm not sure how many "regular" people are familiar with "higher power" in a sobriety support system, and this is rather anti-thetical to that mantra when it comes down to it. This movie is very much about taking control, not living with what one can't control. I honestly have no idea if the writing or pacing was horrible, whether there were things left out to make me care about this situation more (I don't think there were), or Ron Eldard just under performed (the movie is designed for that character to carry the movie, another point against it). There are some interesting conceptual parts to this, but for most audiences, stay away.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsJust watched Higher Power on apple tv4k...it really impressed me visually and the atmos, with constant heights sounds of actors voices and felt many times really deep low bass 20hz down. The plot starts a little confusing but then it kicks like a roller coaster, shocking ending to cry for.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsIts somewhat confusing in the beginning because it's not a typical movie in just about every way. It's as if someone wrote the story for one of the greatest RPG video games ever made and decided to shoot it like a series of video game cut scenes but release it as a movie. I would buy a new gaming system and still pay $100 for a game based on this movie. Its shocking to find this bug budget sfx movie was actually done with only ½ a million. I was really skeptical because of who they cast as the star but I was wrong. A few minutes in, I expected it to be a slow paced movie that would never end but when the credits rolled I couldn't believe it was over already. This movie definitely needs a sequel, if they can manage to pull a worthy 2nd story off because it ended with me wanting more. A lot more.
