Holy Motors
audience Reviews
, 71% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsOver the course of 24 hourse, a man (Denis Lavant) is driven around by a limo driver and adopts many personas. There are likely several interpretations of this weird surreal film and I think several could be correct, even if they conflict. That's how odd and enigmatic it is. I took it as how many of us feel our lives are scripted with little or no control on our part. Certainly a very unique film. Recommended
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsUnique, nutsy, desparate, surreal is life, especially when we start changing our character to match every scenario, becomes exhausting does it? Gets more extreme does it? Do you ever feel like you're being watched or simply to voyeur watching a life/style usually an exciting one. This is actually very "entertaining", though movie-people vs film-people will differ greatly (they want the simple answer presented by the end in crayon, & say: ohhh that's why haha, fart, go to bed) I can't understand bad reviews for this film. I'm a lover of a QUESTION MAKING film (as all answers people dogmatically give are bs), plus this challenges if we are doing vs watching/thinking only.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsFelt obvious that this would be a Cannes critics favourite. It is batshit, dark, moody and stylish. It has something to say but it’s not altogether clear what. Mainly though, it just isn’t very entertaining or enjoyable to watch. Watched on DVD.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars"Your punishment, poor lisa, is to be you" Una obra surrealista de un hombre que tiene 9 citas diferentes, donde interpreta a diferente personas. Existencial. Poética. Sensorial. "¿Who are you?" Quien sabe si reiremos en la proxima vida. El cine te permite tener múltiples vidas. Técnica: 7.7 Expresión: 8.4 Efecto: 8.2 Experiencia: 7.0 Calificación: 7.8/10
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsGuy in a limo drives around and performs different roles around Paris. Not sure how they're connected. Not sure what the point was. Not worth trying to figure out, either.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsHoly motors was a surreal experience, much different than anything else I’ve seen. Very original movie that I’d recommend to anyone who enjoys weird, foreign language films. Not quite 5 stars because it did drag on just a bit.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsTwisted, in a good way.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIt's a perfect visual, textural, emotional experience. Funny and evocative and great. What movies should be.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsWeird. Sucks you in. Don't know that it's good but it is interesting
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsSo this is supposedly an ode to cinema, and each vignette is done in a different style or genre. But, to be honest, I almost missed that while watching it, because it is just so completely bonkers. On the other hand, it doesn’t feel weird just for the sake of being weird. It is absolutely mad, but you have to admire Carax’ vision, and the ability (willingness?) of Denis Lavant to wholeheartedly inhabit that vision.
