(ENGLISH) Hot Tub Time Machine 2 is the perfect example of how to stretch a joke well past its breaking point. If the first film was a cheeky, goofy romp with a certain charm, this sequel feels like it was made out of obligation—like someone just hit the “repeat” button without thinking it through. This time, the gang travels to the future instead of the past, and with that shift, most of the original’s appeal is lost. And worst of all, John Cusack is nowhere to be found.
Adam Scott steps in as Cusack’s supposed son, but the script doesn’t give him much to work with. The situations are more absurd than funny, and most of the jokes fall flat—lewd without the cleverness. There are a few scattered moments that might get a chuckle, but overall, it feels like you’re watching a watered-down, soulless version of what came before.
What’s really missing is that mix of nostalgia and madness that made the original work. Here, everything boils down to forced gags and aimless scenes. The humor lacks bite, and the plot just meanders with no clear direction. There’s no mystery, no thrill, and what little sci-fi is left feels like an afterthought.
In the end, what could’ve been a fun second dip into a ridiculous idea ends up as a weak comedy that doesn’t even try to pretend it has something new to offer. If you really loved the first one, maybe there’s something to salvage here… but otherwise, it’s best not to climb into this tub.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
For sure lukewarm sequel, seemingly lost the whole previous concept. Now even more confusing and everybody seems a little lost. Not the worst, but not worth a second glance. Cast still performs adequately, barely. Could have been so much more

This was not as bad as everyone says but doesn't do the same for me as the first. The first one is amazing, iconic imo. Little cheesier but not the worst I've seen.

They went all in on some of the jokes and gags. It had its moments, but as expected, an inferior sequel.

It definitely doesn't have the emotion or power of the original, but it is still pretty damn funny, and there's great chemistry here. Not nearly as bad as some of you make it out to be.

A couple laughs. Mostly bad.

Not as good as the original, but I still love the sequel.

Though it depicts several tropes aligned with old-thinking "macho" behaviour, it explores and expands on a lot of what the previous film let out. Where the original, which is better, restrains itself to one single setting (the ski resort), this offers a wider exploration of situations.
Going in with the mentality that it is a simplistic comedic endeavour will help to avoid the disappointment that many now feel, as most seem to have expected a repeat on the brilliance of the original.

A trash sequel and it's an hour 39 minutes long.

I'm perplexed by these ratings, this movie is incredibly smart with slick hilarious quality gags..I'm amazed so many don't get it. 8 years later I still watch it every couple of months.
