"House of Spoils," a 2024 film featuring Ariana DeBose, caught me off guard—I wasn’t even aware it was coming out until I stumbled upon it in the 2024 release schedule. The story follows a chef haunted by a malevolent spirit at the site of her new restaurant. This ghost demands that she use certain ingredients—natural ones for which she was previously banished. If the chef fails to comply, she experiences terrifying visions, believing her food is infested with bugs or spoiled. The premise is undeniably creepy. While the film attempts to offer some intriguing elements, it ultimately falls short in terms of entertainment value. There were numerous directions the plot could have taken, but it seems the filmmakers opted for a singular path and stuck with it, which led to a somewhat disappointing experience. Ariana DeBose delivers a commendable performance as a woman unraveling under the pressure, doing what she can with the material at hand. I appreciated "House of Spoils" for what it aimed to achieve, but it’s one of those movies I likely won’t revisit. It simply didn’t captivate me enough to warrant multiple viewings.

What a disappointing ending. The movie actually had an interesting theme and was building good momentum until the scene where the chef crawls through the tunnel and comes upon a corpse. From that point on, the storyline and the script becomes LAME.

What's with Blumhouse making these movies lol we had a haunted swimming pool movie and now we've got a haunted kitchen. This movie was so stupid.

Although I'm sure intentional, the over exaggerated gesturing of 'chef' was cringe worthy, especially the outdoor feast scene, it was almost too embarrassing to watch!! Directed differently the film would have been so much better.

The intrigue of a new kitchen is far more gripping than the supernatural goings-on, but it's the latter that ultimately wrest control of the story and refuse to give it back.

I just couldn't get past how unlikable the characters were in this. Not sure if it was the characters necessarily or the actors themselves... but it was a hard watch to say the least
