Io Capitano is a pretty emocional movie, that two young senegalese man dream to reach Europe. They face lot of very hard chalenges and situations that seemed impossible to escape. The movie portrays a very poor and dificult reality in the country, and show the horrible things that people have to go through and do to go to Europe. The movie was nominated to win the Best International Movie on the Oscar

A journey toward hope, Io Capitano perambulates through the ravishing Saharan landscape encountering the most sublime and debased corners of humanity.

Why waste time with the horrific truth?

A very impactful film with a very current and extremely important narrative. The dilemma addressed leaves traces for long debates. The entire trajectory until the outcome is as visceral as it is exciting. The actors Moustapha Fall and Seydou Sarr were incredible. I hope they get other opportunities. The locations were spectacular, making the photographs even more beautiful. Apart from Pinocchio from 2019, I don't know the other works of Matteo Garrone, who paradoxically, is Italian (creating even more subsidies for the debate, after the open ending). Anyway, a great film, great reflection! I recommend it!

Great and touching movie. Bravo to Garrone for personnalizing Seydou Sarr and Moustapha Fall's story. I feel like it was done with authenticity and respect for migrants that have to experience this. One of the good movies to help us understand the situation of many African people. Cried and cried again. Beautiful movie.

Man this hits. Brings those long form think pieces to life.

Some exceptional moments and I appreciate the earnest attempt to show how people decide to risk their lives to get to another place. But overall, I don’t think they fully sold it.

Matteo Garrone co-wrote and directed this drama, which stars Moustapha Fall and Seydou Sarr. The film was a co-production between Italy, Belgium, and France. The film was shot in Senegal, Morocco, and Italy. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature. The film follows two teenage cousins from Senegal who work secretly to earn money for moving to Europe. They eventually escape Senegal by bribing checkpoints in Niger and travel through the desert to Libya, where they are imprisoned for illegally entering the country. Several migrants have perished in the Mediterranean Sea while waiting for help on the European shore. The film reminded me of "In this World (2002)," a film about a little Afghan boy who illegally travels from Peshawar, Pakistan, via Iran, Turkiye, Switzerland, into France and then the UK.
