- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsNo one does gross out comedy better than Monty python. They are The originators of it. And this movie definitely fits into that category. In this movie a peasant who is a stock taker who works for his father. Becomes an outcast. He goes on a strange and unusual journey. Meanwhile there is a mystical monster is running around terrorizing the village. If you're a big fan of Monty Python you'll love this movie.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsAs a fan of the Time Bandits, I can say this movie sucks. Slow unoriginal plot carried along by gross poop and pee "humor". Unbelievable
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsGoofy little movie nothing really amazing but it as some good bits in it.. hard to say i would recommend this but since there's not a lot of comedy medieval movies if your into medieval movies this is a must watch but apart of that i wouldn't bother watching this if your not into medievals
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIt has its moments, but there isn't enough comedic gold to make this a classic. Palin is a great pathetic protagonist, just doesn't have enough to work with.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsProto-Gilliam but shows early signs of the visionary directors style and humour. Palin is, as always, hugely likeable in the main role and theres plenty of cameos from great comedy actors to enjoy. It's not a classic work of comedic genius like Life of Brian or Monty Python and the Holy Grail but then frankly what is? Very enjoyable all the same.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsI'm a massive fan of Gilliam's work, but this was incredibly disappointing. There's really nothing that makes this worth watching.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsNot funny or realistic. Too much ham-acting and slapstick.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI love Michael Palin, and was looking forward to seeing him in his starring role, but it's a shame that his talent was wasted on such a disappointing, dull, and unfunny movie.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsIn its greatest moments, it is, dare I say, pratchettian, and this is a high praise coming from long-time Pratchett fan. That being said, is also has some low, vulgar, obscene moments that are, in my opinion, the worst vice of Gilliam as filmmaker. And the rest of it? Well, the rest consists of not-so-good jokes and visuals that, while certainly do not knock one out off ones feet, are quite atmospheric and revoke that dirty, down-to-earth, medieval look of fantasy in movies before Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. So I do not regret watching it because of some of its humor as well as the atmosphere, but as for the vulgarities – what I have seen, I cannot, regretfully, unsee. Still - the most pratchettian movie of the ones that are not a screen adaptation of sir Terry's works.
