Juliet & Romeo

This isn’t a movie, it’s a prom theme.

Copycat pop songs and barely-there choreography make for a snoozy update of the Bard’s classic romance.

This movie musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers is no “& Juliet” — that is, it’s no fun.

At one point Romeo sort of proposes by telling Juliet he wants to “turn our prose into poetry.” This screenplay has done the reverse.

Never was a film I’m more likely to forget, than this of Romeo and his Juliet.

Director Bogart tends to drain the romance and the excitement from the source material: The camera is rarely where it needs to be to capture the choreography (either the dancing or the sword-fighting kind), and his soundstage Verona rarely comes to life.

They already did a musical version of "Romeo & Juliet". It is called "West Side Story".

Juliet & Romeo is worth seeing for audiences curious about new interpretations of Shakespeare’s works.

In other words, while theater purists might be appalled by this revisionist romance, theater kids may have found their new favorite soundtrack.

this new take on Shakespeare stretches out to a punishing 122 minutes and almost nothing works. The leads are bland, the songs are forgettable and the modern dialogue is cringeworthy
