I don't normally watch a lot of documentaries but I tried this one based on the subject matter and I used to run video stores back in the day. This movie had me glued to my seat at how crazy of a story it was. If you were ever a fan of video stores check this movie out !
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
A fascinating story that is somewhat bungled by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin in a feature documentary that is bat crazy. Redmon, who narrates, is all about himself and he gets in the way a lot. However, when we learn about what happened to a video store, that you don't need to have heard of to enjoy, the film takes shape. The movie tells the story of 55,000 films that Mr. Kim wanted to find a new and good home for. That journey is remarkable. Redmon is a focal point and may have some mental health issues based on what he says, but he has a passion and it's endearing. The doc is disjointed, but the story, which includes the Italian mafia is totally worth it. Watched this on Kanopy, which was the only place I could find it for free. Final Score: 7.8/10
