Coming from a family of firefighters this is one of the best firefighter movies of all time And I genuinely don’t understand the low rating As for me and my family it will always be one of the best and a true classics

So I've been a FF both career and volunteer for going on 16 years now. I was going through my fire academy and we all went to one of the guys houses to watch this movie and I fell in love even more woth the profession. The action scenes aren't perfect because a lot doesn't transfer to the big screen very well but the brotherhood and the moments between the guys, the personalities and the families is dead on. Everytime I watch movie this I fall in love all over again.

Ignore what the clueless critics say about this movie. Ladder 49 is EXCELLENT. Ask any fireman who's seen this film, they will tell you that it nails the brotherhood and life of many firefighters. The movie pulls you in and makes you feel for the characters, by the end you will be bawling over the hardships they face and the sacrifices they make in order to save innocent lives. 10/10 highly recommend

Great movie, it's no backdraft but its an awesome film.

Bland, forgettable and by the numbers. Those who love this kind of film will enjoy but it has nothing new to offer.

Firefighting is inherently admirable and worthy of the Hollywood treatment. In fact, we probably need more movies delineating just how difficult and courageous of a profession it is. But in the words of Switch from "The Matrix," "not like this. . .not like this." "Ladder 49" is as plain and bland it gets, just eking by with its competent look and feel, tricking you into following through with an experience that's so empty and hokey overall, you can't help but guess the year it came out correctly every time. Wadded together with characters, scenes and even lines you've seen before (there's a character that straight up says, "I'm getting too old for this shit" multiple times, as if no cinemagoer's heard the line from Lethal Weapon parodied a thousand times over already) it has to be one of the clearest examples of a movie I've seen in quite a while that I'd advise you put on if you just want to "tune out." There's even a relatively ballsy -- considering the kinds of narratives that were popular at the time -- ending that's completely undone by one of the cheesiest songs I've ever heard written for and placed into a film. I wish I could give Joaquin a mulligan on this one, but it's just so cringe-inducing. Please, watch "Backdraft" instead of this.

boring and so thus creates a movie for sheeple
  • Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars
This might be the most generic movie I’ve ever seen. It’s not bad though.

Ladder 49 should've been sad and/or entertaining. But I felt disappointed and rushed. It's kind of pale.

A very good film about firefighters that puts them in a good light. The ending was not a shock because right in the beginning you can already guess how it is going to end but you see Joaquin Phoenix's journey from being a rookie firefighter to a hero and how John Travolta guided him throughout the film.
