Lee Daniels' The Butler
audience Reviews
, 78% Audience Score- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsWhitaker is quite good, but some of the random choices to play the presidents end up giving downright embarrassing performances. Also, the melodrama is unintentionally funny on occasion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsHistória sensacional e atores melhores ainda.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsSome historical accuracies in this fillm.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWasn't expecting this movie to be so good but it is a great great movie, keeps you interested and emotionally invested.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsStrong performances from Whitaker, Winfrey and Oyelowo make the film worth watching. I enjoyed the journey but it had me feeling shame, embarrassment and sadness for our country that human beings, including some of our so-called leaders, behaved in the manner that they did. I'm grateful that we have evolved some since 1776 but there is still a long way to go.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis movie is exceptional and a must watch.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsPositives: beautifully shot, for the most part no nudity and very little profanity. Enjoyed seeing the change of fashion, and different periods in history, I thought the lunch counter scenes were great. would have liked it in two movies instead of one. Cons-The historical inaccuracies bothered me. The timeline was my biggest issue. The movie could not have been accurately experienced in a single person's realistic lifetime. If so, the main character should have been over 140 years old by the end of the movie. When you state a movie is "inspired" by the truth, I feel it needs to more accurately reflect a realistic life time. I wished they had focused on the time period of right before the Civli Rights movement thru where the movie ended. There was enough material for an entire movie just during that timeframe and the realistic struggle the family went through while the father and son were pursuing different paths toward gaining equality was the best part.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsAlthough slightly uneven and historically incorrect at times, Lee Daniel's The Butler is still a strong historical drama thanks to pitch-perfect performances, its emotional weight and consistent pace.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsWhile I fully appreciated the historical value of the film, it still only deserved three stars.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsWhy does Lee Daniel’s have the film making maturity of a high schooler? This feels exactly like a school project your 15 yr old would come up with. With sledgehammer ‘ohhh that’s so meaningful!’ moments.
