Absolutely soul stirring!! Forest Whitaker was absolutely amazing as always. Very emotional from beginning to end!! Definitely Oscar worthy.

Whitaker is quite good, but some of the random choices to play the presidents end up giving downright embarrassing performances. Also, the melodrama is unintentionally funny on occasion.

Strong performances from Whitaker, Winfrey and Oyelowo make the film worth watching. I enjoyed the journey but it had me feeling shame, embarrassment and sadness for our country that human beings, including some of our so-called leaders, behaved in the manner that they did. I'm grateful that we have evolved some since 1776 but there is still a long way to go.

Although slightly uneven and historically incorrect at times, Lee Daniel's The Butler is still a strong historical drama thanks to pitch-perfect performances, its emotional weight and consistent pace.

Why does Lee Daniel’s have the film making maturity of a high schooler? This feels exactly like a school project your 15 yr old would come up with. With sledgehammer ‘ohhh that’s so meaningful!’ moments.
