Distracting pop-music needle drops and hammy performances give “Lilly” the feel of a Lifetime movie.

Equal-pay activist and trailblazer Lilly Ledbetter deserves a much better film.

Sadly, this heavy-handed biopic about the legacy of an original crusader for equal pay doesn’t receive the polished treatment it deserves.

Ultimately about how sometimes big victories are only possible because of smaller, more complex wins.

Heightened melodrama, exaggerated character portrayals, and overly emotional music undermine the film based on a true story.

Still, while the film is imperfect, Lilly's drive for gender equity for all women is well worth watching, and evidence that while there's still a long way to go, as the saying goes, we've come a long way, baby.



Surely, there is a better way to tell the story of Lilly Ledbetter than the way these filmmakers have chosen.
