Protagonist Jessica played by, well… Jessica (Sula) does a fine job in this film. It’s not meant to be an exact replica of Last Shift, perhaps not even meant to be better. Just… Different. While there were some obvious plot holes, like the mere fact, she could’ve left at any point in time, this film is mostly well executed and one of the more creepy films I have seen in sometime. Atmospheric dread is on point throughout the film. Sheer evil, pure chaos. The vast majority of these negative reviews are likely due to the fact that most people saw Last Shift first and automatically have biases. I, on the other hand, saw them in reverse and found this to be a much better film, where Last Shift was… Forgettable.

I’m a strong lover of the first movie that this is based off of which is last shift. I think this movie did a a lot. Personally, I like the first one better, but this is a good one to sit down and have a good horror/thriller watch

Created an account just to say how bad this movie was. Absolute snooze fest. I enjoyed Last Shift, but this was awful.

A pointless remake of an already solid chiller, Last Shift. Terrible writing, laughably bad acting, uninspired direction & some poor effects, Malum isn't even decent. It's just dumb.

MUCH better version of the Last Shift!! Creepy culty vibes without feeling cheesy and poorly done.

Malum is horror done right and it’s one of 2023’s best regardless of film genres. The fear and horror, sometimes psychologically is very real. The main character’s journey through living torment and her backstory involving an insane cult is one heck of a ride. With a lean runtime but packing a heavy punch, this film delivers. The film is expertly crafted and visually powerful. There’s enough here for horror films but also just a well constructed story for those who appreciate strong stories too.

Malum excels at immersing the audience in its world, skillfully drawing viewers into the high stakes while creating just enough confusion to keep them as on edge as the protagonist. The jump scares are well-timed and consistent without feeling overused, maintaining a balance that keeps the tension high. The cast delivers standout performances, breathing life into their characters—whether to make you loathe them or deeply empathize with them, they all fulfill their roles exceptionally well. This is easily one of the most disturbing and genuinely creepy films I’ve seen in a long time. It masterfully keeps your heart racing from start to finish.

Overall solid movie. Would have liked more background on the cult and towards the end it gets very disjointed. Also, the demon looked terrible and made me laugh at how bad that was. But all in all I enjoyed it and it was entertaining.

It's not a hard and fast rule that movie remakes have to be inferior to the originals. In this case it's a remake of Last Shift. It's just that, of late, most of them have been and Malum happens to be one of them.
