Matt Rife: Lucid - A Crowd Work Special
audience Reviews
, 49% Audience Score- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars*Matt Rife: Lucid* isn’t a stand-up special—it’s pure crowd work, so don’t go in expecting punchlines and polished bits. I wasn’t a fan of his last Netflix outing, but as someone who loves his short crowd work clips, this one was way more my speed. That said, most of the laughs came from the audience’s wild answers, not Matt himself. He’s sharp, quick, and thrives in chaos, but let’s not pretend this proves he’s a top-tier stand-up comedian. Fun time? Absolutely. But without such a playful crowd, it would've been a very different show. Entertaining, just not groundbreaking. 3 stars.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsIt's a good watch. It's raw. Real, different, funny. All the haters need to hate .. they are just envious.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsLost interest fast in this "comedy" special. I think this style works better in short clips. Crowd work can be funny but there's not enough here to keep it interesting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsDoing something new, critics are so rubbish at moving with the times. We don’t care what you say. We buy the tickets. It’s not supposed to be a super smooth written special. It’s joking around with the crowd. Come on people, get with the program. Matt is a genius at making people feel comfortable to confess these screwed up things. Love him. ‘Be ok with silence’ Dave Chapelle advice.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsHe is the funniest and the nicest comedian around.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsHorrible. How is this talent at all. Couldn't wait for it to be over it dragged & knowing it went on longer in person is pretty embarrassing that was the "best" clips netflix was able to get out of it. Feel bad for the girl talking about being cheated on & he just bashes her in front of everyone for something she can't even control. Just seeing her try to defend herself & his response was super demeaning. I know comedy is making fun of people sometimes which is funny/fun but nothing he was saying even made any sense. I don't think he even understands how to relate to real life adults after watching this.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsMatt Rife's comedy special *Lucid* falls flat, offering more awkward pauses and forced jokes than genuine laughs. The material feels lacks the sharpness needed to keep the audience engaged. Unfortunately, this special fails to deliver the comedic impact one would expect.
- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsIt bored me to death and I love his other stuff.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsI’ve watched quite a bit of Matt Rife and I didn’t find this one to be that great. The crowd work wasn’t near a good as some of his past shows. I must say I waited all day to watch this and I was highly disappointed.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsDon't market something as off the cuff crowd work when so much of it is clearly set up.
