Memoir of a Murderer
audience Reviews
, 79% Audience Score- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsIt 's a tough story line to follow because it's so convoluted, twisted, and dark. In comparison it make Polanski's Chinatown look like a Dick and Jane reader. Am going to have to rewatch a few times to make sure nothing was missed because the details are passed out using a big ladel. Like a psycho dramas it flops back and forth between realities with no noticable anchor except for a face twitch here and there. It's one of the most Un-Korean, Korean movies I've ever seen. And what is it about psycho-Korean guys? Pure evil with a nice smile and polite manners. Only gave it 4.5 because the closed caption wasn't completely in sync with the on screen dialog, but it might have been the feed I was using (tubi.com). Yet another good reason to rewatch it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMemoir of a Murderer ist ein südkoreanischer Mystery Thriller von Won Shin-yun. Absolut sehenswert.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA great thriller/mystery that reminds you that story's do not have to be the same stall plots retold over and over again but can still be unique and innovative. I tend not to like movies with unreliable narratives as I often just find it gimmicky and silly but this film uses it in a unique and interesting way that adds to the plot. Most notably I think in the end this film allows you to believe which ever story you want to believe. I also think there are a lot of themes in this book that no matter which story you choose to be true still resonant within the film. Independently of which is true the main character is still a victim of his own memory.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis is an excellent mystery film, filled with twists and suspenseful throughout. Sul Kyung-Gu is terrific as the murderer afflicted with Alzheimer's, as is his antagonist in the film, Kim Nam-Gil. The anticlimactic scenes were a bit much I thought, resulting in a half star deduction, but still highly recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsA unique film in the crime and mystery genre A beautiful vague ending
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars"Memoir of a Murderer" is intelligent, and reinvents, at least in parts, a cliche theme.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsA fantastic movie that has an ending that may confuse some. It took a bit of searching the net for theories before I found 1 that made sense. SPOILER: the protagonist did in fact kill the dirty cop, but because his dementia got a lot worse in the mental facility, he comes to the conclusion that he didn't kill the dirty cop and hence his mission is incomplete. So he releases himself from the facility and will now lead a life of hell (to pay for his sins) as he'll be searching obsessively for the cop, who is already dead... meaning he will die thinking he's a failure. If you a different theory PLEASE let me know by replying. I'm still not 100% certain because wouldn't he still have contact with his daughter, and wouldn't she remind him that the cop is already dead? Idk... As for a review, regardless of the tricky ending its a very interesting and entertaining movie to watch. The acting was good (the bad cop could've been a bit creepier) and the cinematography was beautiful. I'd definitely recommend this movie to horror-thriller fans, and especially those who like asian movies.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsIt's a great movie without a doubt The director was able to accurately create a kind of suspicion in the brain until the last moments. in the details of movie, we can see how memory become a goal and cause to kill. Do not trust anyone including your memory
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt was like 'memento' meets 'seven' but in a cool and modern way. I wouldn't probably start watching if I knew it was Korean, I'm not big on Asian movies but it was a solid thriller.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsOne of the best THRILLERS of the 2010's
